Instructional Technology
Columbia Law School's Instructional Technology division is dedicated to helping students and faculty get the most out of educational systems and tools, including: CourseWorks, Echo360, and emerging technologies such as generative AI. We provide services, technical assistance, documentation, and workshops.
To schedule a workshop or make an appointment for any sort of technical assistance, please email Basem Aly at [email protected]. Office hours are typically Tuesday - Thursday, 10:30am - 6:30pm, or by appointment.
Services
CourseWorks is Columbia University's learning management system and the Law School's primary online tool for teaching and learning. The tool aims to provide students with access to syllabi, course information, learning modules, online discussion spaces, course materials, and more. Courseworks integrates seamlessly with both Zoom, for hybrid and remote learning, as well as Echo360, for access to lecture captures and asynchronous video recordings. Please note that LawNet is the Law School's online portal for: registration, seating charts, grades, name pronunciation/pronouns, and course evaluations.
The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) has a website which hosts more than 900 Lessons in 30 legal topic areas. Many students find the lessons of value as reinforcement of principles taught in the classroom.
Columbia Law School students who wish to use the CALI lessons on the web will need to register and enter the school's authorization code. Email the IT Helpdesk @ [email protected] if you are a Columbia Law School student and need to know the authorization code.
During the registration process you will also create your own password. In subsequent visits to use lessons, you will only need to enter your email address and your password.
To register, go to the CALI website and click on the "create new account" link.

AI Confluence Knowledge Base
Due to strong interest in AI & Chat-GPT, we've created a comprehensive Confluence Generative AI Knowledge Base on Confluence. This resource is available to all members of the Law School community. We've also developed several handouts drawn from the knowledge base for various classes and workshops
